Mike Newton, CPWA®

Mike is a Certified Private Wealth Advisor® with 30 years of experience in the field. He also holds licenses as a registered representative and investment advisor representative. In addition, Mike is a life, health, and long-term care agent.

Mike grew up in Bowling Green, KY. Earning both academic and athletic scholarships, he graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a minor in Economics.

After a successful stint as an Executive with the Boy Scouts of America (Jan 1987 to Aug 1991), Mike began his investment career at JC Bradford in 1991. In 1994 he moved to First American Bank’s investment division(later became Amsouth Bank). At the bank, he worked with trust officers, Certified Financial Planners®, loan officers, and insurance executives. He considers his time at the bank extremely helpful in his quest to serve the full needs of his clients. In the fall of 2000, Amsouth Bank sold their Kentucky branches and Mike decided to start Newton Financial Group. In his career, he has helped clients with investments ranging from mutual funds to more sophisticated Reg D offerings. He has counseled and implemented strategies using insurance and he has helped solve many other complex concerns of his clients.

Mike really enjoys helping others and has served in numerous charitable and community roles.

  • In 2022, Mike chaired the Scoring Committee of the United States Golf Association’s Girls Championship at The Club at Olde Stone. Girls from over 40 countries participated in the televised event.

  • While on the Board of Directors of Bowling Green Christian Academy for ten years, Mike served as President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Athletic Director, Basketball Coach, and Robotics Coach.

  • Mike has chaired a Christmas Parade, organized and chaired local junior golf tournaments, served as a Junior Bible Quiz Coach, chaired a development campaign for Orchestra Kentucky, served on the board of the Warren County Community Foundation and the board of the local Red Cross.

  • Mike is a past member of Living Hope Baptist Church’s Board of Trustees (past chairman). He is former member of the Estate Planning Advisory Council for Campbellsville University, the Greenwood High School Career and Technical Advisory Committee, and the Western Kentucky University’s “W” Club (past chairman). The “W” Club is only open to former athletic letter winners and is responsible for the WKU Athletic Hall of Fame selections and recognitions as well as current athletic letter recognitions.

  • Mike was the Head Coach of the Greenwood High School Boy’s Golf Team from 2010 to 2018. During those years his teams had some of the most successful seasons in school history. In 2022, two teams coached by Mike were inducted into the Greenwood Athletics Hall of Fame. They are currently the only golf teams at Greenwood’s history ever inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Mike has been married to his wife Julie since 1988. A speech-language pathologist, Julie serves as a part time Clinical Supervisor at the WKU Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. They have two sons. Michael, who is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Nick, a CPA who works at the corporate office of Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati.

Kevin Taylor, CFP®

Certified Financial Planner®

With over 13 years of experience, Kevin is a Certified Financial Planner®, registered representative, and investment advisor representative. He is also a life, health, and long-term care agent. Practical, inquisitive, and with an eye for financial details, Kevin has been an integral part of the growth of Newton Financial Group.

Kevin grew up in Decatur, IL where he graduated from Millikin University’s Tabor School of Business in 2008. He began with Newton Financial Group in 2009. His focus is on investment research, financial analysis, and financial planning for clients.

As an avid outdoorsman he loves to pheasant hunt and fish. Kevin lives in Alvaton, KY with his wife Hannah and their two sons, Nash and Clay. At the end of the business day, Kevin can usually be found at home spending time with his wife and two young children.

Karen Reynolds

VP of Client Services

Karen has over 21 years of experience in the field. She is a registered representative and investment advisor representative. Karen holds the Series 4,7,24, and 66 registrations as well as the Kentucky Health/Life insurance licenses. In addition, Karen is a National Social Security Advisor certificate holder.

For 15 years (2001 to 2016) Karen was the Director of Operations for Investment Planners, Inc. in Decatur, Illinois. In that capacity she worked with over 100 advisors in multiple offices where she assisted advisors with various investment products and companies. Karen is well appreciated for her attention to detail and her excellent customer service.

Karen was born and raised in Central Illinois. Karen graduated from Millikin University’s Tabor School of Business in Decatur, Illinois in 2001 near the top of her class with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. 

Karen has been married to her husband Rob since 2003.They have three children, Emily, Drew, and Austin. Karen is the Chair of the South Warren Middle School Football Boosters Club. She is 2022 Assistant Chair of Scoring for the United States Golf Association Girls Championship (over 40 countries are expected to be represented).When Karen’s workday ends, she devotes herself to her family’s needs and the needs of others. Karen can usually be found helping her husband, her children, or volunteering at one of her children’s many activities.

Lauren Reesor

Operations/Sales Assistant

Lauren started working at Newton Financial Group beginning in January 2022 as the Operations & Sales Assistant. She interacts with clients daily to facilitate a wide variety of inquiries and is a valuable asset to the team. She offers prompt, courteous service and provides personal attention to each client.

Originally from Fishers, Indiana, Lauren graduated from Ball State University with her Bachelor of Science in Public Health. She earned her Master of Health Administration from Western Kentucky University and served as a Practice Administrator in Bowling Green and Franklin, KY for several years. Lauren found her niche by tying her background and skills in with financial services as she enjoys the evolving landscape.

Outside the office, Lauren can be found spending time with her family and friends. She lives in Plano with her husband, Jesse, and their puppy. She is studying for her securities exam.

Alma Gentry

Administrative & Client Services

Alma began her financial services career working at Newton Financial Group when Mike opened the Bowling Green office in October 2000. For 19 years Alma was a registered representative and insurance agent. Utilizing her own personal experiences, Alma has been instrumental in helping clients deal with financial issues following the deaths of family members.

Alma has extensive business management knowledge and work experience. Prior to Newton Financial Group, she was head manager of Franklin Country Club, and she worked in many administrative and accounting areas in education, government, and manufacturing facilities in Franklin, KY.

A longtime supporter of the community, Alma is a member of Franklin Business and Professional Women’s Club, prior holding local and regional offices, including Club President, and also was active on local, regional, and state committees. Alma is an active member of First United Methodist Church in Franklin, KY where she currently serves in the Finance and Youth committees. At church she held the offices of treasurer, administrative board secretary, has assisted in many areas including treasurer, administrative board secretary, and on the administrative, trustees, finance, and staff parish committees. She belongs to the United Methodist Women organization and has held various offices in the local unit, is past treasurer for the district, and serves on the district and conference mission teams.

Alma is from Pulaski County, KY (Nancy/Somerset area) and has lived in Franklin since 1969 with her husband, the late Noah Gentry. She is the proud mother of three girls, two biological, and is a guardian for her niece. Her family now also includes six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She has always kept the highways busy visiting and attending activities with her family.

Alma enjoys playing golf and attending golf tournaments, outings and traveling with friends and family, reading, walking, and watching nature. These days, Alma works part time helping mostly with administrative and management concerns.

Brady Reynolds

Wealth Management Assistant

Brady began working for New Financial Group as an Intern in January 2023 and recently was hired full-time as a Wealth Management Assistant. Originally from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Brady recently graduated from Western Kentucky University’s finance program at the Gordon Ford College of Business.

After office hours, Brady can be found enjoying nature with his puppy Maverick, playing a round of golf, and catching up with friends and family. Brady lives in Bowling Green and is currently studying for his Series 7.
