Our Story

The Story of Newton Financial Group

In the fall of 1991, Mike Newton went to work for JC Bradford and became a licensed securities broker in February 1992.

In March of 1994, Ameristar Investment Services hired Mike as an investment broker entrusting him with serving the three Kentucky bank branches of First American Bank.  Over the next six years, the book of investment business grew by over $65,000,000 and to over 500 clients.  While working with Ameristar and it's successors, Mike was introduced to certified financial planners, insurance experts, trust officers, and other financial professionals. He made it a point to "mine their minds," learning many business and financial strategies from them.

In the Fall of 2000, the bank was sold and Mike had to make a decision — stay with the new bank (a choice he came to believe would not benefit his clients), go to a traditional brokerage firm (like JC Bradford), or go out on his own as an independent financial advisor. After much prayer, thought, and consultation from his wife, attorney, banker, and friends, Mike decided to form an independent business and affiliate with Investment Planners, Inc.  The firm opened as Investment Planners, Inc./Mike Newton and Associates in September of 2000. Today, the firm is Newton Financial Group, LLC, and is still affiliated with Investment Planners, Inc. and IPI Wealth Management, Inc.

Our Bowling Green and Franklin offices opened with Alma Gentry, Wanda Marksbary, Heather Hurt, and Mike in September 2000. We have enjoyed serving our clients and our community.  One of the ways we have tried to help is by providing WKU students with internships and co-op opportunities.

Currently our firm has four licensed advisors, Alma, Kevin, Karen, and Mike.  The business has grown from a startup to a successful advisory practice. We advise, manage, and execute transactions in investment management, retirement planning, account structuring, insurance, and other financial matters that our clients have.  Please contact us to learn more.
